What a rrrough rrride to a rrreunion

It is always good to be reunited with family you haven’t seen for a while, but getting there should not be so hard it makes you think twice about attempting to.
Last week my brother Peter juggled his schedule around in an attempt to travel to Rainy River where the rest of the Johnston clan was planning a reunion. All seemed like a go for him and then on Friday the brakes in his van failed. He called up the dealer and cried them a river about the reunion and they squeezed him in Saturday. Unfortunately by the time it was done he decided it was too late to come.
In the mean time Mom and Pop Johnston headed out to Lake of the Woods to stay at Assabaska Ojibway Heritage Park.
In addition to the traditionally rough Highway 621, they had to travel the road from the hwy. into the park.
I to took that road Friday.
Anyone who has done so recently knows that if you do not have a 4X4 it is going to be one heck of a rough ride.
Several times along the three or four mile journey, that took about 25 minutes, I thought about turning around. But I persevered and upon reaching the gate I voiced my complaints.
The gatekeeper told me to be sure and file my concerns on the back of the camping registration form and deposit it on my way exiting the park. While she did apologize, it was sure tough to get my stomach and nerves to settle down after that short trip that seemed to take forever.
From the gate I travelled into the park where roads did not get much better.
After I settled down, I did have a really nice time at the park and wish I could have stayed longer.
