Prime Minister should have commented on Joe Clarke’s resignation

Dear Editor,
So Joe Clark has resigned. Many people are relieved, many are saddened and many feel both emotions. It reflects, I think, the level to which Canadian politics have sunk when the Prime Minister is so concerned with his own leadership that he fails to comment on the resignation of a man who lifted the level of debate (and personal ethics) in Parliament, and when the leader of the opposition uses the resignation to flog his dead "unite the right" mantra without even a nod towards the contributions Joe Clark has made to his party and to Canada.
I would close with the observation that both men should be ashamed, but I doubt if they would understand.
