Big Grassy student bitten by police dog

On February 19th, 2009 at 1:00 pm, Treaty Three Police Service and the OPP Regional K-9 Unit attended the Pegamigaapo School in Big Grassy First Nation. The officers were at the school visiting the students and giving them a K-9 demonstration.
After the officers concluded the K-9 demonstration in the gymnasium and were about to leave the building, one of the students lost their balance and fell into the dog. The 9 year old student was subsequently bitten. Police immediately notified school officials, teachers and the parents of the student involved. The parents of the youth attended the school and transported the child to the Rainy River Hospital for treatment. The child received non life-threatening injuries, was treated and subsequently released.
The Ontario Provincial Police remain in communication with school officials, parents and community members to offer any assistance necessary.
