The Rainy River Figure Skating Club has been busy practising figure eights, jumps and other fancy footwork as they gear up for their annual Ice Shows this weekend!
The theme this year is Disco Fever. Coach Lesley Wood said, “All skaters have been working hard on the new skills that they have learned.” She is pleased with the progress the skaters have made from the beginning of the year until now noting, “It should be a great show this year!”
“We have nine group performances from the Beginners and the Can Skate program. We have four duets, and three solos, from the Can Figure program.
Performing the solos are Heather Ottertail, Jessica Cole, Carly Vaagen and the duets are Kendra Moen and Lanie Krause, Kyden and Emily O’Connor, Shauna Moen and Kenzie Godin, Jenny Dyck and Tara Ottertail.
The club had 34 Can Skaters, 10 Beginners and 11 Can Figures this year. Wood said, “With the large number of skaters in the Can Skate program, it was great having all the help from the girls in the Can Figure program help out this year!”
The past six weeks were set aside for ice show practices, each group gets 10 minutes of ice time with Coach Wood each practice. That way each group has no distractions from other skaters. All their hard work will pay off this Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. when the club hosts their ice shows.
There will be two guest skaters Saturday evening; Michael Nelson and Sophie Potvin/Begin. Coach Wood will also be performing during both shows.
Advanced tickets are available at Wood’s Quality Bakery, Beaver Mills Market, Ben Franklin and The Smiling Moon.
