Rainy River High School’s boys curling team returned from NWOSSA playoffs last week with bronze medals.
Skipped by Matt Johnson, the team, Mitch Haw-third, Cody Jarvis-second and Cody Ossachuk-lead, finished round robin play 3-2.
They defeated Fort Frances 4-2 in their first game. RRHS was then beat 8-1 by Geraldton who ended up going 5-0 to win the entire event and advance to the All Ontarios.
Johnson’s team then beat Westgate (Thunder Bay) 10-0. “They quit after four ends,” said Johnson.
Up next was another Thunder Bay team, Hammarskjold, who RRHS beat 6-3.
Their last game was against Nipigon-Red Rock and RRHS prevailed 6-3.
However, after round robin play RRHS was tied with Hammarskjold 3-2. But because of the records of who beat who, Hammarskjold was awarded the silver and RRHS the bronze.
