Once again the Canadian Legion in Rainy River will be bursting with colours of spring, as organizers have plans well underway for the annual Quilt Show and Pie Social.
This is the fourth year the Evangelical Covenant Women’s group have sponsored this well attended event, revealing over thirty quilts at any one occasion. The Quilt Show has continued to grow since it’s introduction in 2005.
Adding to the fun is the addition of a Silent Auction Table, along with the Scrap booking exhibits, delectable Bake Table, Pie Auction, and of course the Door Prize! Adorning the pretty tea tables will be a wonderful collection of china teapots & greenery.
New presenter, Brigitte McGreevy will be showing her original wall hangings, “Woolly Flowers” and “A Santa Advent Calendar.” Donna Westover, also a fresh exhibitor will reveal “Depression”, an old scrap pattern from the 1930’s, that Donna says turned out ‘really well’ for her first attempt. New comer Verna Barsey, will also display her creation, “Gerry’s Moose Quilt,” and another new recruit, Janet Drennan, will show her beautiful wall hangings.
Internationally from Indonesia there’ll be an “Agape Quilt,” brought by Teresa Stamler, along with a “silk bed covering” from Vietnam. Carol Jenson’s in the process of completing a “Stack and Whack” in beautiful rich purples and yellows along with Eleanor Wiersema’s “Lone Star”; both have kindly let us display them as is. Sure to make an impression will be Peggy Livingston’s “Dresden Plate”, an older pattern with a new twist, along with showstopper, “Valley Junction”. Our youngest exhibitors, Chalina Abraham, Moriah Carradice, and Chalice Snwdon, taught by Donna Jewett, will contribute their “Checker Game Quilt” for viewing.
Last year beloved quilts were, the “Bargello” pattern by Joyce Penner and Eleanor Wiersema, in purples, pinks and blues. The gorgeous “Dresden Plate” quilt by Tina Mast drew rave reviews alongside the dramatic, yet subtle, “Radiant Star” by Janice Schaaf and these will once again be in the quilt parade. Carol Jenson’s Flowerpot quilt is sure to be a showstopper, with little puffy gatherings of material for flowers and her ever-popular Double Ring representation, often given as a wedding gift. The spectacular Birdhouse pattern by Joyce is a delight to the younger crowd as well as those who love the colour blue. Bev Langner will have her gorgeous additions of “Postcards from Pine Tree Lodge”, which will amuse everyone with it’s ticks and mosquitoes, “Evening Stroll” with it’s blues, greens and yellows reminding us of spring, and “Mosaic”, one of my favourites, in it’s sparkly material.
Other items revealed besides the bed coverings, will be lovingly created baby quilts by Elsie Ewald, more wall hangings, table runner & placemats by Bev Langer, pot holders, nurses bags by Joyce Penner, quilt racks, etc. along with other talented ladies showing their creations. Of course all this will just add to the social activity over an array of delicious pies and variety of teas (& coffee) with light music and everyone has a chance at the Door Prize.
If you are eager to get outside and enjoy the spring weather you’ll surely enjoy taking in the ECC 4th annual Quilt Show & Pie Social, Sat. April 4th from 2-4 p.m., freewill offering at the door, in the back of the Rainy River Canadian Legion. Everyone young and old is invited to attend!
