For decades a wet floor hasbeen a major deterrent to holding major events in the summer at Rainy River Arena.
However, last week the Rainy River Recreation Board received great news! They will be receiving a $37,500 Trillium grant to install a commercial sized dehumidifier.
Recreation Director Meghan Shanks said that of that total $22,102.00 will go towards a $24,102 dehumidifier. The Legion and Legion Ladies Aux. each donated $1,000 towards the cost.
Shanks is hoping the humidifier will be installed by late summer and in place by September. She noted that while the wet floor problem has been what the public sees most prominently, that a recent assessment by an engineer said that the local arena would only have 10-15 years left in its lifespan if nothing was done about the moisture in the building.
The balance of the grant will be used as follows:
$4,543 for LED recessed pot-lighting in the upstairs of the community centre so that sporting activities can be held without worry up there. The current hanging chandeliers are not safe for sports.
$867.59 for an electronic swipe card system to allow the exercise room to be open 24/7. They hope to have it installed by May.
$870.10 for an insulated steel door.
$8,820.00 for a multi-station universal weight set for the exercise room.
