Over this past weekend, the girl’s basketball team from Riverview School took top spot at the regional tournament in Fort Frances. Hoping to better their 2nd place finish at the Crossroads Tournament last month, the Riverview girls took to the hardwood floor at Fort Frances High School on Saturday. They opened the tournament with a loss to Sturgeon Creek who also had a very good team. The Riverview girls were able to get their offence going in their next game against Crossroads and won quite decisively. The third game was against St. Francis from Fort Frances who had beaten them at the last tournament. This game ended up being a close game, but Riverview managed to hold on and took 2nd place in their pool because of the win.
The semi-final games had been set with Sturgeon Creek up against Crossroads and Riverview against St. Francis. The Riverview girls took the semi-final game which put them in the finals against Sturgeon Creek. The final game was an exciting game where both teams played extremely well, especially on defense. With the lead exchanging hands throughout the game, the Riverview girls finally took the lead with about 6 minutes left in the game and never looked back. With a 15-8 win, gold went to Riverview, silver to Sturgeon Creek, and bronze to St. Francis.
