Season was a grand slam!

If you are an avid baseball fan, the Blue Jays have nothing on the Rainy River Legion Royals this year!
Last week the Cinderella season of new team sweeping the competition under the carpet was completed when the local boys of summer kicked some dogs in the butt.
It has been a long time since Rainy River has had any type of major men’s sports team win a title. In fact it has been quite a long time since the community has even had a men’s sports team other than hockey.
The fans loved it, I loved it! The game is so much more fun to watch than slowpitch and as the old saying goes... “Everyone loves a winner!”
But the winners go well beyond just the outstanding players that made up the team. The entire Rainy River District Fastball league has seen new enthusiasm injected into it this past year.
A new team almost always does that to a sport but this year teams like Pinewood and Barwick really made the sport exciting to watch. That excitement may be in part due to the new core of young fastball players that the teams across the league have recruited.
That youthful vitality should be the foundation for some really awesome games next year and for the years to come.
I have heard that there may even be a second Rainy River team in the offing for next year.
They say sports go through up and down cycles. Lets hope that this only the beginning of an up cycle and that the entire district continues to win from.
