Phillip Laverdure
Phillip Laverdure, 83, of 601 Little Street, Rainy River, Ontario passed away peacefully on Monday, September 2, 2002 at LaVerendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ontario.
He was born on September 23, 1918 in Rainy River, Ontario to the late Isreal and Dorothie Laverdure. During Phillip’s early years, he worked at various jobs until settling in Harris Hill where he farmed for a number of years. He later moved to Rainy River to work on the C.N. for a short time, as well as managing the grain elevator in Rainy River. In 1957, Phillip moved to Thompson, Manitoba where he worked for Inco, worked as a self employed carpenter and did janitorial work. He returned to Rainy River in the early 70’s where he did odd jobs until he retired. He resided in Rainy River until his passing. Phillip enjoyed fishing and hunting throughout his lifetime, and in his earlier years enjoyed baseball and curling.
He was predeceased by one son Harley; four brothers Leo, Alfred, Emile and Lorne; and six sisters Lydia, Julie, Ida, Yvonne, Louise and Alma.
Phillip is survived by his son Bill Laverdure and wife Cheryl of Fort Frances, On; two daughter Phyllis and husband Ron Olson of Dryden, On; and Susette Larson and Donald Armstrong of Pinewood, On; thirteen grandchildren Wendy, Rhonda, Beth, Sandy, Lennie, Brian, Steve, Leanne, David, Kim, Drew, Billie Jo and Jenny; numerous great grandchildren; one brother Marcel Laverdure of Wabigoon, On; one sister Louella LaFrance of International Falls, Mn; two sisters-in-law Hilda and Lucille, two brothers-in-law Gus and Pat and by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 7, 2002 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady Of Good Counsel Roman Catholic Church in Rainy River, Ontario.
The active pallbearers were Terry Duncan, Micheal Laverdure, Peter Laverdure, Doug LaFrance, David LaFrance and David Laverdure.
The honorary pallbearers were Leonard Laverdure, Jim MacDonald, Brian Russell and Manny Nordin.
