The orchestra is coming to town next week!
Borderland Orchestra, which features musicians from Williams, Minnesota in the west to Fort Frances, Ont. in the east will be going on the road this year with its annual Spring Concert.
Kitty Gale, a flutist, of Rainy River told the Record last week that due to the fact that the orchestra could not get the Townsend Theatre on the dates they wanted they decided to go on the road.
Fort Frances’ loss is Rainy River’s gain. The Spring Concert titled Musical Moments with Strings, Brass and More will be in Rainy River next Tuesday at the Rainy River High School Auditorium. They will then be in Emo at Donald Young School the following evening and International Falls’ Backus Auditorium on June 4th.
While they will be charging admission, Gale said, “This is the only concerts we charge for all year. We use the money to pay for new music and instruments which are extremely costly.”
Throughout the year they can be found performing at various functions including fundraisers for organizations.
The RRHS concert will be a small fundraiser for the soccer teams at the school. “Every admission paid will see $1 dollar go to the teams,” said Gale.
She said the public will be treated to some great sounds. “We have music from the recently popular movie Chronicles of Narnia,” said Gale, “as well as a great brass section doing “Fun for the Common Man” pieces.’”
Locally Kitty Gale and Dave Singleton are in the Orchestra. From Baudette are Brian Cunningham, Harry Pierce, and Corryn Trask. From Williams are Larry and Nancy Cole.
Both concerts in Rainy River and Emo will be at 7 p.m. and all members of the public are welcome. See ad in this paper for ticket info.
