Paddlers set summer schedule

The River Runners Canoe and Kayak Club held their second organizational meeting on Wednesday, June 10th at the Ken Moorman residence in Baudette.. Club members kicked off the paddling season with a coffee party hosted by Carol Levasseur and Jenny Moorman. A dozen paddlers showed up for the evening.
The first item of business was to elect new officers for the 2009 Paddling Season. Tom Heinrich was re-elected as the Club’s President, Mike Hirst will remain Vice President and Carol Levasseur will again serve as Secretary/Treasurer. Jenny Moorman volunteered to help with publicity.
Weekly group paddles were again scheduled for Thursday nights at 6:00 PM starting on June 11th and continuing every Thursday night until August 27th.
Several summer trips were planned beginning with a run down the Upper and Lower Long Sault Rapids on the Rainy River led by Jenny and Ken Moorman on Sunday, June 28th at 4:00 PM. Interested paddlers will meet at the Franze Jevne State Park boat launch with their equipment and a lunch. This trip is for Beginners and Intermediate paddlers. Call 634-1059 for further details.
A day trip paddle down the Tamarac River and along the shores of Upper Red Lake will be offered by Gerry and Carol Levasseur on Saturday, July 18th.
Our August trip offering will feature a three-day, two night campout into Canada. Trip leader, Tom Heinrich, will once again reserve our campsite at Caliper Lake Provincial Park. This trip is August 21-23 with a pre-trip planning session scheduled prior departure.
