Edith Fern Fraser

It is with a heavy heart that the family of Edith “Edy” Fraser 66, must announce her passing. After a courageous battle with cancer, she passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2002 at the Rainy River Health Centre.

She was born in Rainy River, Ontario on July 9, 1936 to William and Emily Embury and has lived in Rainy River for the last 28 years. Previously, she lived in many places as the R.C.A.F. took her and her most beloved husband Don on many an adventure in Europe and Canada. They met in October of 1955 at R.CA.F. Base Beaver Bank in Nova Scotia where they were both Fighter Control Operators. They were married on February 2, 1957.

Edy is survived by her loving husband Don, her children David (Laureen), Donna (Dave), Cindy (Keri), Jeffrey (Lisa) and by her grandchildren Joel, Avery, Graeme, Saragh, Evan, Emily, Elizabeth and Rebekah. She is also survived by her mother Emily Embury, sisters and brothers Ilene (Charlie) Johnson, Evelyn (Almer) Godin, Harold (Janet) Embury, Mildred (Dan) Johnson, and Clifford (Ruth) Embury.

Predeceasing Edy was her father William Embury, a son James Methieu Fraser and a grandson Christopher Fraser.

Edy was employed for a number of years at both the Arctic Cat Plant and Home Care as well as the R.C.A.F. Her favourite pastimes were many and varied from gardening, horses, and farming to knitting, especially for the grandchildren. Edy also served with dedication as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister and in many other ways for the Catholic Church.

A Celebration of her life was held at Our Lady of the Way Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, October 8, 2002 at 11 a.m. Father James Panikulam officiated with interment in the cemetery in Blue Township.

The honourary pallbearers were Kristine Carpenter, Ellen Chojko-Bolec, Mary Desorcy, Lorraine Dryden, Danny Godin, Dawn Graham, Rachel Korchak, Alphonse Langlais, Annette Langlais and Carl Peters.
