Forest Women’s Institute calls for return of recycling
Laurel Desrosier
Forest Women’s Institute met at the home of Joyce Penner on Oct. 8. The meeting was opened with the Mary Stewart Collect read by Irene Hanson.
Roll Call which was ideas for resolutions was answered by 15 members. There were many ideas too numerous to mention, but some of them were the return of blue boxes to our area, that the age of consent be raised from 14 years to 16 years despite the change of 1985 to protect children from sexual predators. Safety strips on railroad box cars be reviewed as many of them are not marked. Charitable organizations can only canvas once a year in a designated month.
Thea read the minutes of the previous meeting and gave the financial statement. Both of these reports were accepted by the members. We received a thank you from Vanessa Kiash who received our Bursary Award. Dorothy put forth a motion to pay all bills, seconded by Eleanor.
We decided to start our winter project after Christmas. There will be a quilting class on Oct. 18 at Bergland School if any one would like to attend. Joyce will lay the wreath on Nov. 11.
We will take sandwiches & dainties to the closing tea at Emo Museum on Oct 21st.
Julia & Vivian gave us an informative report from the area convention held at Oxdrift.
Laurel won the raffle and Irene won the door prize. Joyce served a delicious lunch.
