Recreation Report: Busy winter season arrives

Monique Gall
Recreation Director

This summer was busy with weddings and socials, and ball tournaments.
It was the summer with fastball back in town at the Rec Centre. The Rainy River Royals team did wonderful this season winning the league championship and the league playoffs. Congratulations guys, it was great having fastball back in town!
The ice is in and hockey has started.
Minor hockey will be in full gear starting on November 11, till then there are some practices held here, (please see schedule in paper).
This season the Rec Board has decided to try and provide public skating and shinny for free for the youth of the area, and they have asked for donations from the public to help defer costs. The response has been positive, and please check the schedule for upcoming public skating and shinny hours and who those hours are sponsored by. It is a wonderful thing to belong to a community that cares about our youth, and helps to provide for our youth.
The first Men’s hockey tournament will be held on November 29, 30 and December 1, 2002. There will hopefully be 8 to 10 teams with action starting on Friday evening.
The Men’s league will be starting tentatively next week.
A special debt of gratitude is owed to all the volunteers that helped out this past summer. Without the volunteers the Rec Centre would be unable to function. The Rec Board also deserve a pat on the back for all their hard work as does fellow staff member & long time volunteer Walter Wagner.
