Finding a new pet companion or locating a lost one just got a whole lot easier in Lake of the Woods County. Now you can look at pets online at the new Lake of the Woods Humane Society website. Photos of local pets are featured as well as information on adoption, volunteering, and community events that benefit animals and support the shelter. The website was designed free of charge by Barbara Patten, a computer web design student at Lake Superior College in Duluth.
The local website is connected to Petfinder.com, the largest pet database in the country with over 10,000 member shelters in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. This allows local shelter animals to be viewed by persons across the country, greatly increasing their chances of placement. The local website can be found by following links at the Petfinder.com website or at the following specific address: HYPERLINK “http://members.petfinder.com/MN277.
The Petfinder website also provides a large variety of information on pet breeds, training videos, animal health, and adoption guides as well as links to other animal shelters. Currently 11 cats and 8 dogs of all ages are living at the Lake of the Woods Humane Society which is a no-kill shelter. The new website can answer some of your basic questions about pet adoption but nothing can substitute for meeting your pet in person. Volunteers are at the shelter three times a day to care for the animals and will be happy to assist you in getting to know your pet. For more information please contact Odetta Freier at 218-634-2390 or other shelter volunteers.
