The 34th Rainy River Open Golf Tournament is set to tee off this Sunday, August 2nd!
This year the tournament has been moved back to Oak Harbor Golf Course in Baudette. Last year it was held near Morson at Spruce Creek Golf Course. The committee plans to alternate it from year to year.
The tournament will remain a one day event with one round of 18 holes beginning shortly after registration ends. For the first time the tournament will involve using all 18 holes at the course. It used to be a nine hole course but was recently expanded. Registration at the course will be held from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m.
Last year the shot gun start saw 39 golfers participate. That was down from the previous year of 48, but organizers are optomistic that the numbers will be up this year.
The Championship flight is open to anyone who lives, has lived or attended school in Rainy River. All other flights are wide open for anyone to enter. It costs $25 for the championship flight, $20 for regular flights and $10 for kids to enter regular flights. Participants that are not members at Oak Harbor will have to pay green fees for 18 holes in addition to the tournament registration fee.
There is no need to pre-register but if people would like to golf together, they are asked to let the registration desk know when they arrive and “We will do the best we can to put you together,” said McGreevy.
It is open to both men and women and kids as well.
Lunch and refreshments will be available at the course.
