Donald James Runke

Mr. Donald James Runke, age 62 years, resident of Thunder Bay, passed away in Thunder Bay Regional Hospital - General on Wednesday, December 11, 2002.
Don was born February 29, 1940 in Vita, Manitoba to Ed and Anna Runke. He resided in Rainy River where he was united in marriage to Donna Wrolstad. They moved to Ignace where together, raised their family and in 1977 moved to Thunder Bay. Don was employed by Great Lake Pulp and Paper (Bowater) Woodlands Division for thirty-nine years, and four years with Wawang Timber until illness forced him to retire. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and Don, who had a knack for growing beautiful flowers, took great pride in his garden.
Don is survived by his loving wife Donna; son Ken (Patsy); daughter Carrie (Mylo) Blauth; five grandchildren; Jillian, Andrea, Shannon, Samantha, Cody; sister Ruby Katona and brother Wilbert Runke, both of Rainy River. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Ed and Anna Runke; two brothers. Albert, Ernie, and a sister Eleanor Edinger.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial Service was held on Monday, December 16 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, officiated by Rev. Ed. Long. Interment will take place at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made in Don’s memory to the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital Foundation.
