Grief outreach begins Sept. 14th
News Release
In a Grief Seminar facilitated by the Grief Institute, one woman from the audience defined grief as “the feeling of reaching out for someone who has always been there, only to find that when we need them one more time, they are no longer there.” That is grief! Experiencing the loss and we don’t know what to do to recover from the loss...even worse, no one else does either. Instead, we hear myths like, “Time heals all wounds,” “Hide your feelings,” But no one told us how to mend our broken hearts, which is what grief is all about. Grief is an emotional experience whether your loss is due to a death, a divorce, or loss of a job.
Grief is a conflicting mass of human emotions that we experience following any change in a familiar pattern. Grief is characterized by confusion, listlessness and the inability to concentrate. Grief recovery is a step by step process done through a series of small and correct choices made by the griever.
What do we mean by recovery? It means feeling better. It means reclaiming your circumstances instead of your circumstances claiming you and your happiness. It means finding new meaning for living, without the fear of being hurt again. Recovery is being able to enjoy fond memories without having them precipitate painful feelings of regret or remorse. Recovery is acknowledging that it is perfectly all right to feel sad from time to time and to talk about those feelings no matter how those around you react. It is being able to forgive others when they say and do things that you know are based on their lack of knowledge about grief.
The Grief Recovery Outreach Program begins September 14 – November 6, 2009 and will be held at 824 Victoria Avenue (corner of Fourth Avenue). To register call Harold Tookenay or Mary Elder, both Certified Grief Recovery Specialists at 1 (807) 274-2779. The cost for this ten session program is $250.00 with payment plan options.
