Hampton reaffirms intent to run in next election

News Release

Howard Hampton, the Member of Provincial Parliament for Kenora-Rainy River, stated in no uncertain terms Sept. 12 that he intends to seek re-election in the 2011 provincial election.
Speaking at the “Ham it up with Howie” tribute dinner, held to honour his nearly 13 years as leader of the Ontario New Democrats, at the Royal Canadian Legion in Dryden Hampton made it clear that he is back to doing the job he loves, which is representing the people of the riding in the Ontario Legislative Assembly.
“The Liberals and Conservatives might want you to think that by stepping down as leader I will not run again,” Hampton stated to a large crowd. “The truth is that couldn’t be further from the truth. I’m back to doing the job I love, which is representing and helping the people of this riding. Every morning when I wake up I look forward to going to work, because I honestly love this job.”
Supporters from around the riding traveled to Dryden for the dinner, while many high profile New Democrats including provincial leader Andrea Horwath and Member of Parliament John Rafferty took time out of their busy schedules to pay tribute from afar, while Federal Kenora NDP candidate Tania Cameron took part as the event’s Master of Ceremonies.
