Iona Vivian McCarthy (Harwood), 76

It is with great sadness, the family announces Iona’s death on December 29, 2002 in Grace General Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 76.
Iona was born on July 31, 1926 in Buttress, Saskatchewan to the late Percy and Elsie Harwood. On October 14, 1941, she was united in marriage to Charles Frederick McCarthy of Pinewood. Following their marriage they raised their family on the family farm in Pinewood, Ontario. Iona was a member of the Knox United Church in Stratton, Ontario. Iona worked for a number of years for the Arctic Cat Factory in Rainy River. She also enjoyed working for the recreational facility in Stratton. S he always looked forward to card games at the seniors complex in Rainy River. In later years, Iona moved to Heritage House in Rainy River where she had lived in recent years.
She was predeceased by her late husband, Charles Frederick; brothers Arthur, Wesley, and Leroy Harwood, and sisters, Dorothy Harwood, Annie Poscalny, Lorena Colvin, and Shirley Carlson.
Iona is survived by her six children; Wes (Doris) of Trenton, ON, Fred (Diane) of Winnipeg, MB, Wayne of Rainy River, ON, Carole of Winnipeg, MB, Ron (Iris) of Winnipeg, MB and Dennis (Gisel) of Atikokan, ON, twelve grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family members who will miss her dearly.
Also to mourn her passing are her many long time friends in the surrounding communities as well as the residents of Heritage House in Rainy River.
Funeral services were held on Friday, January 3, 2002 at 1 p.m. at the Knox United Church in Rainy River, Ontario, Pastor Pat White officiated with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Rainy River.
Visitation was held prior to services on Friday afternoon at the Knox United Church in Rainy River.
The active pallbearers were Barry McCarthy, Lee Chabot, Wes Pisiak, Brent McCarthy, Sean Willits and Sandy Willits.
The honourary pallbearers were friends.
