Dad was predeceased by his wife Vivian (Thorburn) on November 7, 2002, his parents, Frank and Emma (Wagstrom) Johnson, two sisters Ellen Thompson and Doris Grove and 3 grandchildren, Erin, Danny, Michael.
Dad was born on December 3, 1912 in Roseau, MN and came to Bergland, Ontario in 1913 with his parents to the property that his parents had homesteaded in 1908. He lived all his life, except for a few short years, on the family farm. Dad took on the role of “man of the house” at the tender age of 5, when his father died in a logging accident.
Dad and Mom were married October 14, 1946 and had recently celebrated 56 years together. Together they farmed the “Beautiful Paradise Ranch” for many years. Dad was also a school bus driver for several years.
Dad was a devoted husband and father. His life and memory will comfort those he leaves behind. His strength and compassion will be sadly missed by his family. We will miss a man that touched our lives more than he ever knew.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, February 13, 2002 at 2 p.m. at the Bergland Hall with Pastor David Gens officiating.
Interment will take place in the Bergland Cemetery at a later date.
The pallbearers were Willard Peters, Marlow Wrolstad, Bill Lundgren, Alfred Gate, Henry Pentney and Bob Westberg.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Rainy River Health Care Facility for the excellent care he received during his stay there and request that in memoriam donations be made to the Rainy River Health Care Facility, Box 236, Rainy River, Ontario, POW 1L0
A Father’s Love
Children hardly know or guess
The love their fathers can’t express
With thoughts he seldom said aloud
His heart is warm, his feelings proud,
They do not fully understand
His wisdom and guiding hand
They do not know each helpful word
Holds love unspoken, hope unheard,
Yet as the busy years roll past,
They come to understand at last
The worries and the fear he knew
The problem times he pulled them through,
They finally learn the full extent
Of what a father’s love has meant
And realize how great it’s been
To have a father just like him.
