The Borderland Community Orchestra will celebrate 10 years of performing music for audiences along the U.S. ~ Canadian border with a concert at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27 at the Lake of the Woods School Auditorium. The orchestra will present “Celebrate Fall” under the direction of Katherine Williams. Featured concert pieces include: “Pirates of the Carribean,” “Bacchanale,” “Russian Chorale,” and Phantom of the Opera,” along with a variety of other selections the orchestra has performed over the years.
The concert will be hosted by the Lake of the Woods Historical Society. Proceeds from the concert will be donated to the County Museum’s expansion and renovation project. Throughout its ten year history the orchestra has performed similar benefit concerts for schools, libraries, performing arts organizations and other borderland needs.
The concept of an international group of musicians performing together began in January of 1999. Since that time, the orchestra has grown to include over 50 players from beginning to advanced levels. Musicians travel from over nine border area towns including the Ontario towns of Barwick, Rainy River, Emo, Devlin and Fort Frances and the Minnesota towns of Baudette, Williams and International Falls. Local members of the orchestra include Larry and Nancy Cole of Williams, Brian Cunningham, Harry Peirce and Corryn Trask of Baudette and Kitty Gale of Rainy River.
Advanced adult tickets will be on sale at various Baudette businesses and from orchestra members in Rainy River. To encourage youth attendance, all students and children will be admitted free.
Come “Celebrate Fall” with the Borderland Community Orchestra and help them kick off their 10-year anniversary.
