Meet Tidbits
Freshman Canadian Victoria Alexander cut her personal best 4000-meter time by another two seconds, finishing 35 seconds ahead of second place runner Megan West of Mesabi East. Eighth grader Skylar Arpin dropped under 17 minutes for the first time, finishing with a 29-second PR, in 16:33. Senior Katie Laugtug finally broke the PR she set back in 2005, completing the course in 18:28. Seventh graders Sara Achen and Kendall Ericksen jumped up to varsity this race, and each earned automatic PRs in a distance one half mile longer than the junior high races they have been running. Achen made it on the varsity team in her first attempt at the distance. All five JV girls earned PRs as well, the largest improvement coming from Lexi Ubel’s 1:35 decrease.
Most of the boys continued their streaks of improvement with PRs ranging from 10 seconds to more than a minute. In only his second 5000-meter race ever, eighth grader Nolan Short ran one minute, 32 seconds faster than his one attempt, at Hawley, last year. Sophomore AJ Washburn had the next largest improvement, coming in 1:08 faster than any previous race. Sophomore Dyson Dahl has gotten faster at each meet this season, improving nearly two minutes from his Sept. 10 race in Roseau. Senior Nolan Lapos, juniors Zach Olson and Eduardo Thome, and sophomores Max Kasberger and Ben Washburn, all dropped their times for the second or third consecutive race.
