Figure skaters raise over $4,200 to start their season

The Rainy River Figure Skating Club kicked off its season with a registration and fund raiser Sunday evening, October 25 in Rainy River. ‘Skate for Funds’ saw 62 registered skaters raise over $4200.00 towards their annual budget, reported Stacy Godin following the event.

The ice surface was crowded with skaters from advanced levels to first-timers. The dressing rooms were filled with parents busy tying skates and eager faces ready to tackle the ice for the first time. Cries of “I’m scared!” and “No, don’t let go of me!” were soon replaced by squeals of excitement as the novices joined in the delight of slipping, sliding, and gliding.

Randi McCormick (Carpenter) after a year’s absence, will be returning as coach for the club this season said Godin, adding the figure skating sessions begin this coming Thursday. They will be working towards a wind-up program in March with the theme of Outer Space
