Lest we forget.
We hear that often around Remembrance Day, however the Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario Command for the Royal Canadian Legion is working to ensure we remember veterans and service personnel throughout the year.
A special project has been commissioned in the command and submissions for it are being sought. The project is the 1st Military Service Recognition Book. The submissions can be up to 150 words and may or may not include a photo. They will feature the veteran’s name, service information, personnel info., a short story or info. on life history and relationship to the Royal Canadian Legion.
“The recognition of our Veterans and Service Personnel of this great organization are too important to let slip away. So let’s get behind this project and make it a successful and memorable publication!” said MB/NWO Command President Gordon Walker.
A minimum of 3,000 copies of the book will be printed by the fall of 2010 and several copies will be made available to every legion in the command.
Deadline for submissions is March 31, 2010, but Rainy River Legion Pres. Gerry Marchuk is urging locals to get their info. together sooner rather than later. There are submission forms available at the local legion and anyone submitting a photo should make sure it is a copy as mailed in pics. will not be returned.
Once completed the sub. forms and pics. can be left at the legion who will then send them into command as soon as possible. Marchuk is hopeful that many will be sent from this area. “We have a strong history here and it should be well represented in this book.”
