Progress on new church looking heavenly
By Susan Douglas

Following a busy summer, volunteers are busy working at catching up on tasks at the new Rainy River Evangelical Church. The undertaking began in 2005 with an announcement by Chairman, David Peters, and has been moving ahead steadily with an end in site.
“Everyone’s been asking, ‘when’s the church going to be ready?’, stated Building Chairman, Rick Boersma. We last reported to the community in March 2009, so it’s time for a quick update on what’s happening inside the new building,”
Area residents are familiar with the structure (152’ x 80’ between Atwood Ave. and Broadway Ave.,) however, not everyone has stopped by for an inside tour.
“The Building Committee is pleased with the progress thus far and at the last meeting chose the style of the sanctuary chairs and carpeting, along with chairs for the side rooms. They also requested a ‘to do list to occupy’,” says Project Coordinator, Mark Douglas. “Members of the church signed up to complete a task on the list with whomever they selected for their team. Since we’ve taken this approach several jobs have been completed. For example one team chose to finish mudding, sanding, priming and painting the pantry and coat closet. Within a few days the ladies had the job done! It’s great; we put in the suspended ceiling, laid the flooring and got the shelving units up. This system seems to work best as there are so many little tasks to be finished yet. ”
The area outside the front doors is being prepped for interlocking brick and our wheelchair accessible washroom is completed.
The large duct work project is finished and able bodies are now putting in the suspended ceiling in the side rooms. The fellowship hall has the air vent grills stained and in place, all light fixture boxes up and the fire alarm system is being installed.
A few men outside of our church membership have stopped by from time to time to lend a hand too, for which we are grateful.
Mark Douglas added, “We’d like to thank everyone who makes room in their busy schedules to come out and help. Thanks for all the prayers and contributions as well. God bless each one of you.” To quote Gord Armstrong, “We know people are anxious to get in “but only God can see the perfection of his timing, we cannot run impatiently ahead of him.”
The new building is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays to accommodate anyone wishing to participate in supervised work or to drop by for a look. Everyone’s welcome!
