What is in the water around here?

All I can say about the past week is, “What the heck is in the water around this area?”
I just can not believe how many top notch athletes this area has produced.
I do not recall a week so filled with so many champions as this past one and I have been doing this for almost 15 years now.
The week started with the news that two Stratton ladies were going to the national curling championships for universities.
Then word came of more curlers doing well at Norwossas. Then the boys basketball teams at Riverview and RRHS brought home gold and bronze medals respectively.
Just when I thought it could not get any more exciting, the Junior Girls volleyball team brought home Norwossa gold to RRHS.
As the last minute of the workweek arrived my phone rang and it was another story about another Stratton lady going to the same nationals as the other curlers.
The weekend was capped off with some amazing hockey at the annual men’s tournament.
Oh yeah, I nearly forgot, the girls hockey team also had a great week placing 2nd at a tournament and area figure skaters kicked butt at area competitions and did well at a regional in Sault St. Marie.
Sports has always been a big part of life in this region, and is both fun to participate in and to watch. We are very lucky to have so many gifted young people here. I just wish I could figure out what was in the water and take a whole bunch so I would be as good as them in sports.
–Until then,
