Riverview does well at volleyball tourneys
By Mark Jodoin

Two weekends ago, Riverview School opened its elementary volleyball season on a positive note.
On Saturday, October 31, instead of heading out for trick or treating, 22 young volleyball players headed to Atikokan for a tournament. Riverview had one gr. 7 girl’s team, one gr. 8 girl’s team, and one gr. 8 boy’s team take part in the tournament.
The grade seven girl’s team, which consisted of mostly gr. 6 girls, did extremely well winning 6 of their 7 games which resulted in a gold medal placing for them.
Our grade 8 girls also did very well, winning 6 of their 7 games. Unfortunately, they lost a close one to Mine Center who also had a 6-1 record. But because they had beaten Riverview in the round robin, our girls had to be satisfied with silver medals.
In the boy’s grade eight division, Riverview also faired well. Losing a few very close games, the boy’s team ended with a 4-3 record which was good enough for a bronze medal performance.
Over the next 5 weeks, the girls and boys will be taking part in several more tournaments. Their season will come to a close on December 5 when all of the regional teams converge on Fort Frances for the regional championships.
Riverview Boys Fair Well at Crossroads
This past weekend the Riverview Boy’s Volleyball team took part in their second tournament of the season. On Saturday, nine teams participated in the Crossroads Boy’s Volleyball Tournament.
Teams from Rainy River, Sturgeon Creek, Mine Center, Fort Frances, Atikokan, and Kenora were playing for top spots. The boys from Riverview ended up in the finals after placing first in their pool. Although the games were close, St. Francis from Fort Frances took the 3 game set. Riverview ended up taking the silver medals while St. Francis took the gold. St. Pats from Atikokan took bronze.
