Earth Day to honour grads and heroes
Earth Day Canada is looking to reward graduating high school students with one of twenty $5 000 post-secondary scholarships. To date, the national environmental charity has doled out $500 000 to 100 students through the Toyota Earth Day Scholarship Program. As the 2010 application deadline (February 28) approaches, Earth Day Canada is encouraging local high school students to access a new batch of $5 000 scholarships.
One exceptional student, chosen from the regional winners, will also be presented with the Toyota Earth Day Scholarship National Award and a Panasonic notebook computer at a National Award Ceremony.
So whether high school students have started their own recycling programs or have engaged in groundbreaking scientific research, they’re responding to environmental issues at local, national and global levels, and demonstrating their leadership in the process—another win-win situation.
Find out more information about the Toyota Earth Day Scholarship Program at www.earthday.ca. The deadline for applications is February 28, 2010.
Earth Day Canada is also searching for Canada’s 2010 Hometown Heroes, individuals and groups who have realized significant environmental achievements in their communities. Candidates can win either the Individual Hometown Heroes Award, with a $10 000 cash-prize ($5 000 to keep and $5 000 to donate to the environmental cause of their choice), or the Group Hometown Heroes Award, with a $10 000 cash-prize to support their work.
The Hometown Heroes Award Program was established in 2004 by Earth Day Canada to recognize and celebrate environmental leaders who foster meaningful, long–term community awareness and action. The program is made possible through a committed partnership with Cascades and the RBC Foundation.
The recipient of the 2010 Hometown Heroes Award will be recognized as part of the 7th Annual Earth Day Canada Gala in Toronto, on June 9th, 2010. For more information, or to nominate yourself, an individual or group from your community, please visit www.earthday.ca. The deadline for applications is Earth Day, April 22nd, 2010.
