Riverview hoopsters win gold and bronze!

On Feb. 20, both the boys and girls basketball teams from Riverview took part in tournaments in Fort Frances. The Riverview boy’s team was one of eight teams competing for top honours at Robert Moore School. There was some very good basketball played throughout the tournament. Following the round robin play, Riverview took on J.W. Walker in the bronze medal match after losing to a very strong St. Francis team in the round robin play. Riverview ended up taking the bronze medal after winning a close match 12 to 10. St. Francis ended up taking on Thomas Aquinas in the gold medal match. Members of the boys team included Zac Tolen, Ernie Drennan, Nolan Short, Jeff Lauzon, Jeremy Trenchard, Eddie Plumridge, Aaron Short, and Nolan Drennan.
At J.W. Walker School, Riverview girls were just too strong for the other seven teams and won all three round robin games quite convincingly. In the final, it came down to Riverview versus Robert Moore’s grade eight team. It was fairly close throughout the game, but Riverview pulled away with an 18 to 10 score by the time the buzzer went. Both teams will be preparing for their regional championship later in March. The girls team included Jenna Jarvis, Dyane Perrault-Kasper, Ayla Holmes, Faith Kilmury, Sara Gall, Camille Johnson, Meghan Vogan, and Becky Cunningham.
