Catholic Board to add another trustee

The Northwest Catholic District School Board is pleased to announce that the Ministry of Education has approved an additional Trustee for the next election, which will increase the current compliment to eight Trustees from seven.
The Northwest Catholic District School Board and the Atikokan Roman Catholic Separate School Board amalgamated as of September 1, 2009. As a result of the amalgamation, the area of jurisdiction of the Northwest Catholic District School Board was increased by "144 square miles" or 373 square km. according to the Municipality of Atikokan.
A formal request to the Minister of Education was sent by the Board in January 2010 to increase the number of members of this Board of accommodate this increase in area. Director of Education Mary-Catherine Kelly said that, "The Northwest Catholic District School Board will discuss the Trustee distribution at the March 27th Board Meeting."
Chair Anne-Marie Fitzgerald stated that, "We are pleased to announce that the response from the Minister of Education has affirmed our request. With the addition of another Trustee, The Northwest Catholic District School Board will be able to ensure that all its ratepayers are adequately represented now that the Board will have eight Trustees."
