Hippity Hop! Hippity Hop! Here comes Peter Cottontail hopping down the bunny trail to Rainy River!
This Saturday the annual Rainy River Easter Egg hunt will be held at the Rainy River Community Centre for kids of all ages!
Recreation Director Meghan Shanks said that this year they have opted to split the kids into different age groups. They will be 4 and under, 5-8 and 9-13.
Each group will do a range of activities. The 4 and under group will do some Easter singing, play pin the tail on the Easter Bunny and an easy craft. They will also go and hunt for eggs at Riverview School Playground.
Ages 5-8 will also do a craft, have some active games like duck racing, egg and spoon racing and an Easter egg scramble. Their egg hunt will be a bit more intense as they will hunt for eggs in the dark down in the basement of the community centre.
“Each group’s egg hunt will see them bring back as many eggs as they can. Everyone will then get an Easter treat bag!” said Shanks Monday.
There has been extra efforts put into ramping the fun-meter up for the 9-13 year olds this year. “We did get a good number of them last year but we want to keep them interested,” explained Shanks. They will play kick the egg; a version of kick the can. They will also do an advanced craft and instead of an egg hunt will play capture the egg. They will do that in teams and the teams will win prizes.
The annual event is a group effort with help coming from The Best Start Hub, Rainy River Public Library, Riverview School, Kristine Brown and the Rainy River Recreation Board.
Shanks said pre-registration is needed so that they can make sure every kid gets a treat bag. Kids can register at Riverview, the library and the Best Start Hub by Thursday at 3:15 p.m. The cost is $2.
Kids can register on the day of the event, “But we can’t guarantee them a treat bag,” said Shanks.
Last year they had over 100 kids participate.
The event gets underway at 10 a.m. at the Community Centre.
