MNR

An Atikokan man was fined $1,500 for violations against the Aggregate Resources Act, the Public Lands Act and the Crown Forest Sustainability Act.
Marcel Huard pleaded guilty to operating an aggregate pit without a permit and was fined $500. He also pleaded guilty to constructing a road without proper approvals and for removing Crown trees in the process, resulting in a $1,000 fine. The court also ordered Huard to rehabilitate the sites and bring them into compliance with provincial standards.
Court heard that Ministry of Natural Resources staff discovered the violations in the summer of 2008 while conducting site inspections in the Marmion Lake area, Rainy River District.
Justice of the Peace Pat Clysdale-Cornell heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Atikokan, on March 25, 2010.
The Ministry of Natural Resources reminds the public that all work on Crown land and the removal of Crown forest resources must be reviewed and approved by the ministry before work begins.
