News Release
O.P.P.
OPP received a call from a Fort Frances resident just shortly after 4am today reporting he located a young child outside his residence.
The complaint told police that because of the warmer weather, he slept with his window open and woke up to what he thought was a cat outside his window. When he looked outside he observed a small child standing on the roadway. The child was dressed and wearing shoes but there were no adults were around.
Police immediately attended and determined the child was about 2.5 years old but was too young to communicate with police as to who his parents were. Family and Children’s Services attended to care for the child while police canvassed the neighbourhood to see if they could locate the child’s family.
A short time later, police received a call from the child’s parents reporting their child missing. Investigation revealed that the child had walked out of the family home while the parent was sleeping.
Police appreciate the assistance from the neighbours in the area who spoke to officers in the early morning hours while they canvassed the neighbourhood. The child has been returned safe and sound to a very relieved family.
