RRHS drama production is this weekend

Loki, the infamous trickster God from Norse mythology, goes on trial for theft and murder this month. The courtroom is the Rainy River High School gymnasium and the fate of Loki is in the hands of the audience attending the Owl Theatre. Guilty, or not-guilty – they will decide how the play will end.
This year’s comedic Owl Theatre production is a play co-written by RRHS alumni, Kristen Moen, Josh Wilson, Mark Singleton, current student Deidre Wilson and staff members Robert Murphy and Laura Armistead. The Rainy River district has a rich history of Norse ancestry so it seemed a logical idea to incorporate these popular myths in the drama program.
Loki (Derek Lauzon) is tried for stealing Sif’s (Barbara Stromness) hair and murdering Baldur (Kathryn Clifford). In his defense he reminds the gods that he retrieved Thor’s (Zach Sopotiuck) hammer, Mjolnir, and he matched the god Frey (Jake Jensson) with the ice maiden Gerd(Deidre Wilson).
Odin (Karl Drackert), wise father of all the gods and prosecuting attorney Heimdal (Nikki Dyck) will sentence Loki at the end of the play. There is a spooky dance number and an entertaining visit from a local Viking opera singer. Every performance has a different ending as the audience gets the opportunity to decide if Loki goes free or is incarcerated. Greg Wilson and Bob McGreevy have, once again, created realistic sets accentuated by paintings from local artists Amanda Little and Gregg Armistead.
On Thursday, April 29 feeder schools will attend a matinee performance of the play. There will be a public performance Friday, April 30 at 7:00, tickets available at the door. The ever popular dinner theatre will take place Saturday, May 1 at 6:30 p.m.,tickets available at the school and the Rainy River Drugstore.
This year’s meal features chicken, ribs, vegetables, bread and a tasty dessert. In typical Viking style, patrons will receive only a knife with which to eat their meal. The dinner is being catered by Cathy Seguin and Jennelle Lowes. They welcome any volunteers to help with the preparation and clean up.
Please contact the school for further information (852-3284).
