Collision closes Hwy. 11 for several hours near Stratton

Last Tuesday, June 1st a collision involving two commercial vehicles on Hwy 11 near Stratton caused the closure of the Highway for approximately 4 hours. Morley and Dawson Township Fire Department personnel assisted the OPP at the scene.
A courier truck entering Hwy 11 from Cave Road was struck by an eastbound pulp truck. The driver of the courier vehicle was taken to Rainy River Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Traffic was rerouted on Municipal roads while heavy equipment was brought in to move the vehicles from the scene.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
Toll Booth Removed
The OPP has confirmed the toll booth on Highway 11 was removed from the highway by Couchiching First Nation at 09:00 p.m. on Monday, May 31st.
The motoring public is commended for the patience displayed during the period when traffic was slowed by the information distribution and toll booth.
The OPP maintained open lines of communication and a good working relationship with the Chief and Council of Couchiching First Nations and liaison officers will continue to communicate with all parties on this and other matters.
The OPP's primary role was to keep the peace, ensure public safety and orderly flow of traffic. Officers will continue to monitor the area.
