On behalf on the Rainy River District School Board at its meeting on June 1, 2010, Transportation Officer, Donna Lee, recognized school bus drivers and presented the Bus Driver of the Year Award to Herman Rodrigues.
Before becoming a bus driver, Herman Rodrigues taught Southern Ontario students at the elementary and secondary levels for 30 years. He also grew up in Rainy River. After his retirement, he moved back to the Rainy River District, where he has been a school bus driver for 5 years with Iron Range Bus Lines Inc. He currently transports elementary and secondary students to and from school for his Alberton area route, and is known for his outstanding ability to develop positive, respectful relationships with students. As an educator, he volunteered to coach a variety of school athletic clubs, and he now drives many extended trips with extracurricular groups from Fort Frances High School. Whether it is on his daily runs, or on field trips, Herman Rodrigues provides safe, efficient transportation and courteous service.
“In many cases, on a daily basis, the bus drivers are the first and last contact with students. Many children spend hours every week on the bus, and the quality of that experience makes a big difference to their lives,” said Donna Lee, Transportation Officer. “We are thrilled to recognize Herman Rodrigues as our School Bus Driver of the Year in the Rainy River District.”
The Rainy River District School Board appreciates all of its dedicated, responsible and reliable professionals who safely deliver our children to and from school each and every day whether rain, snow or shine.
