As some of you know I was away last week.
While a group of us were busy running the annual alzheimer's dinner in Rainy River two Saturday's ago, my fiancee ended up having emergency surgery.

Chairitable Chairs!

Marilyn McAlister of Rainy River won one of the beautifully painted Chairs for Charity at the 9th Annual RR Alzheimer's Linda Johnston Memorial Dinner Saturday. She is seen here, left, receiving the chair, painted by Vivian Locking, from Kenora-RR Alzheimer Society Exec. Director Lynn Moffatt. The Chairs for Charity raffle raised a record $687 this year! Other winners were: Rocking chair-Gregg Armistead, Cradle/kid's rocker-Andre Bremault and Kids potty chair-Holly Hanson. Red Tape Awareness

On day four of Red Tape Awareness Week™, the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) is putting a spotlight on the negative impact red tape has on Canada’s farmers. Most businesses cite red tape as their second highest concern behind the total tax burden, but recent CFIB data puts red tape at the top of the list of farmers’ concerns (79 per cent). Farmers are also the most likely to say the burden of red tape has grown: 72 per cent report the burden has increased over the past 3 years, compared to 55 per cent among all other sectors.

RRDSB revises extra-curricular sports program

Rainy River District School Board revises process for the provision of extra-curricular activities during exceptional circumstances The Rainy River District School Board recognizes the importance of extra-curricular activities and is finalizing a process to provide these services to Secondary level students.
In December 2012, as with many other school boards across the province, the Rainy River District School Board notified parents and community members regarding a temporary suspension of extra-curricular activities.

Dorothy Anderson - Age 88

Dorothy passed away peacefully with family at her side on Friday, January 25, 2013 at Rainy River Health Centre, at the age of 88. Dorothy was born on February 15, 1924 in Spohn Township to the late Ludvig & Clara Johnson. On May 10, 1947, Dorothy was united in marriage to Art Anderson. They lived in Spohn until moving to Bergland in July 1959.
