Two weeks ago I noticed that the Carlson’s had put their Christmas lights up on their home. Wasn’t that rushing the season a bit? But then I looked at the flyers in Thursday’s paper immediately after Halloween, and all were promoting Christmas.
We hadn’t even gotten to Remembrance Day. That used to be the day when the community went to the Cenotaph and in the afternoon, the merchants and their staffs converted their stores to Christmas. Today, that change over occurs earlier on the calendar.
The Carlsons were not early and they did their lighting in shirtsleeves.

I truly believe God works in mysterious ways. Two Fridays ago I attended the meat raffle at the Legion. The bartender, Glenda Halverson, came over to me and told me that there were two Shih Tzu dogs at the Lake of the Woods Humane Society in Baudette.
Knowing that I had put my long time canine friend down in Sept. she thought maybe I would be interested.
At first I just kind of shrugged it off.

It is with great sadness that the family of Frederick Arnould Hartnell announce his passing. With his loving wife and family surrounding him he passed away peacefully, in his home in Rainy River, early Sunday morning, October 28th, 2012. He was 94 years old.
Fred was born on April 23rd, 1918 to Walter and Mary Hartnell, in a log house, in the township of Blue. He was the oldest of five children. On July 10, 1943, Fred married the love of his life, Vivian Hanson. Together they farmed and raised their ten children.
