There’s a new face behind the pharmacy counter at Rainy River Drugs.

The Great Beaver Cardboard Boat races make quite a splash

Sunday afternoon at Hannam Park saw 15 teams feverishly planning and building their watercraft for the 10th Annual Great Beaver Cardboard and Tuck Tape Boat Races. Despite some severe weather just prior to race time, everyone’s spirits remained undampened. There were entries in all classes of competition: Family, Adult, Children, and Open/Theme.

One last hangover at the RR Hotel

Last week the townsfolk of Rainy River gathered for a funeral of sorts. The former Rainy River Hotel was demolished on Main St. and many people attended its last day on this Earth.

Federal cuts keep on coming

This week I would like to offer an update on some more unpopular and unannounced federal cuts, and some great local events that I hope to attend across our riding our summer.

The mind games of tournament fishing

This is Bass Week in Fort Frances. Bass anglers have been plying the waters of Rainy Lake for the past week. You can see rooster tails flying high in the sky as those sleek fibreglass bass boat skim across the water. The boats, shone into mirror finishes, seem to be loaded with the latest technology systems.
Stable and comfortable, they are easy to fish from.
The compartments filled with rods, reels and tackle and baits, have enough stock to fill a small fishing store. There is always something new on the market that every fisherman will need.

Fredrick Joseph Morrison, 67

After a sudden illness, Fredrick Joseph Morrison, 67, of Rainy River, Ontario passed away on July 11, 2012 surrounded by family. Fred, the eldest son of Donald Sr. and Bessie Morrison, was born March 13, 1945 at the Rainy River Hospital. Fred attended Mokahum Bible School in Cass Lake, Minnesota from 1961-1963. Upon returning to the Morson area, he married Mary Baer in 1967. He lived in Winnipeg for many years but always returned to the area he called home. He loved to spend time on Lake of Woods fishing or boating.
