Balancing the books on your back

Governing is always about choices, and last week the Harper Conservatives chose to balance the budget on the backs of the middle aged and the middle class while ignoring the key challenges facing economic development in Northwestern Ontario.

Tourism is important

The announcement that the province was closing the provincial tourism information offices in Rainy River, Fort Frances and Kenora has caught everyone by surprise. In the past 12 months the province had expanded their budget to promote fishing and hunting in the Northwest. The money was targeted at major markets through the upper Midwest.

Finally government does something that makes "cents!"

Last week the federal government presented its annual budget. Once it was over, few were talking about tax cuts, tax hikes, job creation, improved programs or cuts to spending.
