Police called to many accidents

On Sunday, July 5 at 10:00 PM officers from Kenora detachment responded to a call that a girl had been thrown from her boat in the area of Clearwater Bay and was injured. Officers met the boat and occupants at the Kendal Inlet landing on Lake of the Woods west of Kenora.
The three girls were in a 16’ Lund heading to a camp when they were adjusting positions and the 16 year old operator lost control causing a 15 year old passenger to fall out of the boat. The boat circled a number of times before it could be brought under control, the girl in the water was struck by the prop of the motor causing non life threatening injuries to her neck and head.
They managed to get the girl back into the boat and to the mainland where they met police and ambulance. The 15 year old Winnipeg girl was taken to Lake of the Woods District Hospital, treated and released.
Kenora OPP marine unit is still investigating this incident, it was noted that although life jackets were in the boat none were being worn at the time of the incident. OPP remind all boaters that it is strongly recommended that appropriate life jackets be worn when boating.
The Kenora Detachment of the OPP with assistance of the Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Unit is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred around 4:00 am on Sunday, July 10th.
Shortly before 4:00 am on Sunday morning officers responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a tractor trailer unit on Highway 71 near Fickas Rd in Sioux Narrows. 25 year old Dayton KAVANAUGH of Northwest Angle was pronounced dead at the scene. Highway 71 was closed until around 12:00 noon on Sunday while police investigated the incident.
Two men are dead in separate motor vehicle collisions on area highways on July 7th 2011.
Just after 12:00 PM last night officers responded to a single motor vehicle collision on highway 17 approx 10 kms east of highway 71. The westbound Pontiac Montana left the highway striking the rock cut and caught fire. The driver and lone occupant 40 year old Colin DUGUAY of Kenora was transported to Lake of the Woods District Hospital where he died as a result of the injuries.
Police responded to a second collision on highway 71 in the area of Fickas Rd in Sioux Narrows Nestor Falls. At 6:30 AM it a southbound Suzuki passenger vehicle lost control rolling and ejecting the driver. The vehicle came to rest in the west side ditch. The driver and lone occupant 18 year old Nicholas CORRIGAN of Thunder Bay died at the scene
On July 11, 2011 at approximately 12:24 pm Rainy River District OPP officers and emergency services responded to an industrial accident at the Noden Causeway located east of Fort Frances. The Noden Causeway is currently under construction as workers are repairing westbound lane.
Today, a crane operator was using the boom to lift a heavy object and the crane became unstable and toppled over. The male operator received injuries and was transported to hospital.
Ministry of Labour officials have been notified and will be attending the work site. The traffic on the Noden Causeway is open for travel.
