"Relay Around the World" set for Friday Night
The committee planning Rainy Rivers 2012 Relay for life (June 22) is currently working on the last minute plans for this years event. There are 13 teams registered with 169 participants in total.
The participants are expected to arrive around 4 p.m. at the Riverview school grounds and campsite set-up lasts until 7:00 p.m. The survivor dinner takes place at 5:30 p.m. at the Rec Centre with special guest speakers Mavis St. Hilaire and Millie Ricci.
At 7:00 the opening ceremonies and welcome will begin. Canadian Cancer Society Rep, Maria Cabral will speak at this time. Guest Speaker Gill Stamler will also make a presentation at this time.
This years theme is “ Relay Around The World” so watch for some great costumes and decorations during the Survivor Victory Lap and Team Parade.
Performances during the evening include Highland Dancers, Zacharia- Grass Dancers, Elmer Whitefish and Sunset Country Square dancers, Belly Dancers & Comic - Robin McCormick.
Cutz for Cancer only has 2 participants right now but there is still time to register. Call Julie Tiboni at 852-1473 or 276-3344.
The Luminary Ceremony takes place at 10:30 p.m. with guest speaker Stacy Kreger. Luminaries may be purchased at the Post office right now for $5.00. They will be lit during the Luminary Ceremony.
The night is jam-packed with activities including Spaghetti Eating Contest, Dizzy Mummy Contest, Frozen T-Shirt Contest, Pokka 500 Relay Race and a Music Trivia Contest. The costumes will also be judged and the winning team gets a meal delivered to their campsite!
At dawn, 5:00 a.m. the Fight Back Ceremony begins on the main stage and then all the tired walkers will be treated to a pancake breakfast.
Closing ceremonies will begin at 6:30 on Saturday morning with the grand total announced. Awards will be given at this time.
Clean-up begins at 7:00 a.m. and a well deserved rest will begin for all the participants.
