The Together We Can fund-raising kick-off for a new digital mammography machine was a huge success last week!
The event began in Rainy River with a pancake breakfast, then teams of cyclists took to the road from Rainy River Health Centre to Emo Health Centre and then on to Fort Frances (LaVerendrye Hospital). The goal for the event was to raise awareness about the project as well as its fund-raising efforts.
The cost of a new digital mammography machine is $650,000. Nicke Baird of Riverside Foundation said, “We had cheque presentations for over $130,000 at the bike ride.”
Baird did not disclose how much is left to raise but did say, “We are 80% of the way there!”
Other fund-raising efforts will continue in days and weeks to come.
The digital mammography machine will be based in Fort Frances and shared by all three hospitals in Rainy River, Emo and Fort Frances.
