Vaughn's Variety Houre a new part of the tourney this Saturday
By Ken Johnston
Anyone who knows Vaughn Murray of Rainy River also knows he does a mean Elvis Presley impersonation. So when he was asked to don his blue suede shoes and host a variety show at the 14th Annual Rainy River Walleye tournament, he got all shook up and said yes!
“Grace Seguin (of the RRWT committee) called and asked me if I would do Elvis and find some other acts with local flavour. I thought it was a good idea,” said Murray.
He is hoping to have about five acts perform about 15 or 20 minutes each, which will put the show at about 1.5 hours long. He and the committee are hoping that Vaughn’s Variety Hour (and a half) will help fill the gap of things to do in the tent before the final weigh-ins on Saturday. It will run from 1-2:30 p.m.
So far he has secured local comedian Justin Wagner, “to do clean comedy” said Murray.
In addition to that local guitar lesson teacher Charlene Gustafson will have some of her students performing and he himself will do Elvis numbers.
Murray had hoped to get Mike McInerny play some blues music and have his Aunt Patsy and Uncle Mel Borgen do some old time music. But both acts can not make it.
“I am trying to find a variety of music that will appeal to all ages,” said Murray. He is still looking for one or two acts to fill the bill.
