Legion to mark Remembrance Day Sunday
By Ken Johnston
This Sunday is Remembrance Day and a full service has been planned for Rainy River’s Legion and Cenotaph.
It will begin at 10:45 a.m. in the Legion Hall. President Walter Wagner said there will be a few changes this year.
As the Legion Chaplain can not be in attendance George Johnson will fill in and do the Prayer for Peace.
Wagner also said that the honour roll will be more detailed. “We have found out more information about some of the men on the honour roll and plan to share it.”
Wagner will also outline the Legion Mandate at the service.
The traditional two minutes of silence will echo through the hall at about 11 a.m. It is a time of reflection to remember those who gave their lives for the freedoms people enjoy today in Canada.
Following the indoor service the Cenotaph Ceremony will be held in the Legion parking lot. It is then that more than 50 wreathes will be placed by many individuals representing families, businesses and organizations.
A luncheon will follow the Cenotaph Ceremony. All are welcome to come and share in this solemn day.
