BISMARCK — A Canadian man is accused of attempting to smuggle American guns into Canada after he allegedly sold six guns to an undercover officer for $24,000.
Shawn Hartnell, of Rainy River, Ontario, is charged with two counts, including conspiracy to illegally export firearms.
Court documents say the 29-year-old Hartnell told undercover Canadian detectives last April he could get them assault rifles for $4,000 and bring them into Canada by snowmobile Investigators acting as buyers allegedly met Hartnell at a Grand Forks hotel earlier last week and paid him $24,000 for four semiautomatic rifles and two handguns. He was arrested after accepting the cash.
A detention hearing was scheduled for Monday in Grand Forks.
