Post office to be closed Saturdays

Canada Post has decided to close the Rainy River Post Office on Saturdays beginning April 14, 2013.
In a letter to all its box holders last week, Canada Post outlined its reasoning for the change.
“A careful review has determined that we have a very small number of local customers on Saturdays,” said Trevor Mader, Local Area Superintendent.
He also said, “With mail volumes declining, we need to make smart choices to maintain local service without becoming a burden on Canadian taxpayers.”
Canada Post eliminated Saturday mail delivery in Rainy River several years ago. However, the post office remained open, allowing customers to access their mailboxes and retail services there. That will cease as of April 14, 2013.
For customers who could not get to the post office during regular weekday business hours Mon-Fri. 9 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Canada Post has decided to extend evening hours on Thursdays to 6:15 p.m. with the elimination of the Saturday hours.
“Postal box customers will still have full access to their mail, during regular business hours, through the postal box lobby. Customers in Rainy River will continue to enjoy access to a full range of postal services and products. There will be no change to the range of services.”
