Hanging Together
Rev. Barb Miller
RR Ministerial
“Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth. Worship the LORD with gladness; come before Him with joyful songs” (Psalm 100:1,2).
These verses of Scripture were the theme of the “Community Hymn Sing” at Hannam Park on Sunday, September 24. A group 80 individuals from all walks of life and church affiliations celebrated the oneness that is found in Jesus Christ. Were you there? We missed you if you weren’t.
Of recent date, there has been a lot of rhetoric about the need to “work together” at all levels of our society in order to insure our future. It was Benjamin Franklin who said, “Yes, we must indeed all hang together, or most assuredly, we shall all hang separately.”
Rainy River is a small town, with many “threats” poised to bring it down. May we “hang together” in a spiritual sense by focusing on the One who alone can insure our future. Surely, God is blessed when we come together to testify that “We are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord.”
Ephesians 5:19,20 says, “Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Music is a vital aspect of our unity. When that music is focused on Christ, we unleash a potential for unity that can only be described as supernatural.
The great preacher Charles Spurgeon once said, “When your heart is full of Christ, you will want to sing.” Let’s look with anticipation to the future… singing as we go!
